Contribution to Maahad Nurul Islam, Sungai Golok, Thailand

On the 2nd of June, 2014 The Yayasan received two visitors being the representative from the Ma'ahad Nurul Islam School, Southern Thailand. As a continuation of our long term commitment to support the school, the Yayasan has handed a contribution amounting RM 180,000 to the school.

Dato’ Paduka (Dr.) Haji Ismail Mohamed was born in 1945, in the State of Kelantan, Malaysia. He has developed an illustrious career in the property development business since 1975.

In the 1980’s Dato’ Hj. Ismail further ventured into plantation in various locations of the Country. Among others, he developed 5,000 acres of palm oil plantation in Setiu, Terengganu; 1,200 acres in Gua Musang, Kelantan, besides many other small scale plantations in Pahang. During this time, he also built 500 low costs houses to cater for lower income group, and built various other housing projects surrounding the Kuala Lumpur area.

Dato’ Hj. Ismail is actively involved in philanthropic activities where he built a public school in Southern Thailand which houses more than 3,000 students, inclusive of a school building and hostels from primary level to upper secondary levels. He also built schools in Kelantan and Kuala Lumpur, which caters for the needy and orphans.

He is also actively involved in philanthropic activities in the Philippines, where he was particularly involved in uplifting the poor and needy people, providing them food and assistance. In recognition for these activities, he was awarded as the Laureate of the GUSI Peace Prize International in 2006 for Philanthropy. This is one of the highest awards in Asia for humanitarian works.


In 2007 Dato’ Hj. Ismail was awarded Honorary Doctor of Philosophy in humanitarian activity by the Mindanao State University, the second largest university in the Philippines. He currently serves as the Chairman and Senior Advisor to the Group. He is now serving as the Chairman of the Board of Trustee of Yayasan Harapan.

DATO IR. AZIZ BIN MUSTAFA

Dato Ir. Aziz bin Mustafa was born in Muar, Johor pada 1hb Oktober, 1956.

Aziz Mustafa, is a Chartered Civil & Structural Engineer. Aziz has over thirty four years of experience in engineering, construction, trading, and property development. Aziz is currently Director of Jurutera Perunding Zaaba Sdn Bhd, a leading engineering consulting firm and Executive Director of Mubina Sdn Bhd and Chairman of Symmetric Link Sdn group of companies, which are involved in wide range of activities including construction and property development. Aziz is also involved in academia, currently Advisor to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Limkokwing University. Aziz was previously adviser to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Universiti Sains Malaysia. Aziz was Head of Civil Engineering Department of the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

Ir. Aziz has been involved in international cooperation, dealing in joint-ventures with companies from the United States of America, England and Europe, and is also actively involved in countries such as Libya, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, the Philippines, Tanzania and Somaliland. As a proof of his open-mindedness, Ir. Aziz has a long term on-going joint ventures with companies from North Korea and has promoted business activities in Somaliland.

Aziz is also a diplomat. In 2005, because of his activities and network in the Philippines, he was conferred the Dato Makhkota Sultan Kudarat, by the Sultan of Kudarat, Philippines. In 2006 he was appointed by the President of the Republic of Somaliland as Economic and International Relations Representative of the Government of Somaliland to Malaysia. He was instrumental in organizing a visit to Malaysia by the delegation comprising of the Vice President and three Ministers from Somaliland, involving visits to the previous Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, several other ministers and meeting several Malaysian Government Ministries.

Ir. Aziz graduated with a Honors degree (Second Upper Class) from Kings’s College University of London in 1979, and a Masters of Science Degree in Foundation Engineering at the University of Birmingham in 1983. Ir. Aziz obtained his Professional Engineers status very early in his career, being Member of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (MIEM) in 1984 and later as Fellow (FIEM) in 1996, Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers UK (MICE) and Chartered Civil Engineer UK (CEng) in 1984, the first Malay member of the Institution of Structural Engineers UK (MIStructE) and Chartered Structural Engineer UK and Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (MASCE) in 1985. He was also members of the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineers (IABSE, Switzerland) and Council of Tall Buildings & Urban Habitat (Lehigh, USA).

Ir. Aziz co-founded Jurutera Perunding ZAABA (JPZ) in 1984 which now employs more than 100 engineers. His technical experience as a consulting engineer includes design the Penang Mutiara Beach Resort, the twin 32-storey Guoman Office and Hotel towers (KL), the 32-storey Sheraton Towers (KL), the 40-storey Grand Hyatt Hotel (KL), the Redisson Hotel (KL), 60-storey Ramli Towers (KLCC), the Grand Mosque Putrajaya, 75-storey Amwaj Towers (UAE), Kuala Lumpur International Airport, state of the art application of GIS and satellite survey for the East West Highway Risk Analysis involving the Universities of Strathclyde and Bristol, and currently the Grand Mosque of Putrajaya, and Independent Checker of the Penang Second Bridge.

Ir. Aziz was also an active academician. He was Head of the Civil Engineering Department of National University of Malaysia (UKM) where he taught graduate and post-graduate courses in engineering for at least 7 years, between 1986 to 1992. Ir Aziz is also actively involved in the development of the engineering profession. He chaired the committee for drafting and publication of the Malaysian Standard for the Structural Use of Concrete and the committee organizing a course on steel design by the British Steel Construction Institute. He has published not less than twenty-five technical papers for journals and conferences at both national and international level, including those held in Chile, China, Russia, United Kingdom and United States. Currently, Ir. Aziz is a Professional Interviewer with the Board of Engineers and the Institution of Engineers Malaysia and frequently interviews candidates sitting for the Professional Engineers qualification.

Mr. Wan Izzuddin Sulaiman, 51, is currently the CEO of TEAM BIOVISION SDN BHD and is a board member in Oxitec (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, both are biotechnology companies in Malaysia. He has served in various capacities in the government as well as in the private sectors in Malaysia. He started his career as an entomologist with the Ministry of Health and later on moved to the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI). His last position in the government was as Vice President of the Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation, an agency under MOSTI. In the private sector he worked as a business consultant advising in technology evaluation, adoption and commercialization. He received his training in Biological Sciences at the Southeast Missouri State University, USA (M.Sc.) and in Epdiemiology & Biostatistics (Advanced Diploma) at the Universite Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium. He also serves as a Trustee in another foundation, Yayasan Bina Lestari Malaysia.

LATAR BELAKANG YAYASAN HARAPAN
Background of the Yayasan

Yayasan Harapan atau dahulunya dikenali sebagai Yayasan Muwaffaq diperbadankan sebagai sebuah Yayasan Amanah dibawah Akta Pemegang Amanah (Diperbadankan) 1952 (Akta 258) berdaftar di Jabatan Perdana Menteri Malaysia pada tahun 1995.

Yayasan Harapan ditubuhkan oleh dua orang pengasas iaitu:
(1) Dr. Wan Mohd Hasni Wan Sulaiman and
(2) Dr. Abdul Rahim Md Ghouse.

Yayasan Harapan pada mulanya dibiayai oleh Tabung Waqf dari Timur Tengah.

Di antara aktiviti awal Yayasan ialah memberikan bantuan kewangan kepada lebih kurang 20 orang pelajar dari Bosnia Herzegovina yang sedang melanjutkan pelajaran mereka di Universiti Islam Antarabangsa, Kuala Lumpur pada tahun 1997 – 1998.

Ini diikuti dengan beberapa aktiviti disekitar pendidikan dan latihan di kalangan masyarakat terpinggir di Malaysia, Selatan Thailand dan Filipina.

Di Selatan Thailand, Yayasan telah menghulurkan bantuan kewangan kepada Maahad Nurul Islam di Sungai Golok, Thailand di bawah kelolaan Pengerusi dan Pemegang Amanah baru bagi Yayasan iaitu Yg Bhg Dato Dr. Hj. Ismail Mohamad. Kini sekolah agama rakyat tersebut mendidik seramai lebih 200 orang pelajar sekolah menengah. Yg Bhg Dato juga adalah penaung kepada program tahunan pengagihan beras percuma kepada masyarakat luar bandar di Selatan Filipina sejak tahun 2005.

Manakala di Somaliland pula Yayasan telah melancarkan projek Ezy Qurban untuk mengagihkan daging Qurban semasa perayaan Eidul Adha sejak tahun 2012. Projek tersebut dicetuskan oleh Pemegang Amanah yang juga Timbalan Pengerusi Yayasan Harapan yang baru dilantik, Dato’ Ir. Hj Abdul Aziz Mustafa.

Di Negara China pula Encik Wan Izzuddin Sulaiman, Pemegang Amanah yang juga baru dilantik telah mencetuskan program hubungan dua hala bertujuan menjalin silaturrahim dan jalinan perdagangan di antara kaum etnik Hui dengan ahli-hali akademik dan perniagaan dari Malaysia. Yayasan telah membiaya sebahagian dari kos delegasi dari Malaysia ke Negara China pada tahun 2012 untuk menghadiri First International Halal Bio Summit di Lanzhou City, Gansu Province.



Yayasan Harapan or previously known as Yayasan Muwaffaq was incorporated as a Trustee Foundation under the Trustees (Incorporation) Act 1952 (Act 258) registered by the Prime Minister Department of Malaysia in 1995.

The Yayasan was founded by two individuals:
(1) Dr. Wan Mohd Hasni Wan Sulaiman and
(2) Dr. Abdul Rahim Md Ghouse.

The Yayasan was originally funded by a Waqf fund from the Middle East.

The first activity of the Yayasan was to provide financial assistant to about 20 students from Bosnia Herzegovina pursuing their tertiary education at the International Islamic University, Kuala Lumpur in 1997-1998.

This was followed by several activities surrounding education and training for the under-served communities in Malaysia, Southern Thailand and the Philippines.

In Southern Thailand, the Yayasan has been providing financial assistance to the Maahad Nurul Islam located in Sungai Golok, Thailand, under its newly appointed Chairman and Trustee Dato Dr. Hj Ismail Mohamad. The private religious school is currently providing education to around more than 200 secondary level school children. Yg Bhg Dato has also been the patron for the annual program for the distribution of free rice among the rural communities in the Southern Philippines since 2005.

While in Somaliland, The Yayasan has initiated an Ezy Qurban project to distribute the annual qurban meat during the Eidul Adha celebration since 2012. The Project was initiated by our newly appointed Trustee and Deputy Chairman of the Yayasan, Dato’ Ir. Aziz Mustafa.

In China, The Yayasan has initiated a networking program meant to connect the Muslim communities from the ethnic Hui with Malaysian academics and businessmen. The Yayasan partly sponsored the trip of the Malaysian delegates to China in 2012 to participate in the First International Halal Bio Summit in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province.

MATLAMAT KAMI
Our Objectives

Yayasan Harapan atau sebelum ini dikenali sebagai Yayasan Muwaffaq ditubuhkan untuk membantu golongan masyarakat yang terpinggir mencetuskan satu harapan baru untuk mencapai kehidupan yang lebih cerah dan bermakna.

Yayasan Harapan or previously known as Yayasan Muwaffaq was established to empower the under-served communities to aspire a new hope for a better and more meaningful lives.


Matlamat tersebut di atas adalah selaras dengan apa yang termaktub di dalam Surat Ikatan Amanah penubuhan Yayasan bertarikh 30hb Mac, 1995 yang di antara lain menyebut bahawa matlamat Yayasan ialah untuk:

1.     Membiayai biasiswa, hadiah, geran, elaun atau bantuan kewangan yang lain kepada pelajar atau penuntut ilmu dan individu-individu yang menjalankan sebarang penyelidikan yang konsisten dengan objektif Yayasan;
2.     Membiayai kerja-kerja penyelidikan atau projek-projek yang diatur oleh Yayasan atau oleh pihak-pihak yang lain yang mempunyai matlamat yang sama dengan Yayasan dan menerbitkan hasil kajian tersebut;
3.     Menganjur pameran, kuliah, kelas, seminar dan kursus samada secara bersendirian atau dengan pihak-pihak yang lain yang konsisten dengan matlamat Yayasan;
4.     Menyediakan kemudahan atau perkhidmatan yang dianggap oleh Pemegang Amanah boleh memberikan menafaat awam;
5.     Memberikan bantuan untuk memperbaiki taraf kehidupan golongan yang memerlukan melalui pemberian bantuan kewangan, kemudahan, dan perkhidmatan berkaitan dengan kesejahteraan awam, kesihatan dan pendidikan;
6.     Membiaya atau menganjur program-program pembinaan shaksiyah, latihan kepimpinan dan program pembangunan kemahiran khusus yang selaras dengan keperluan negara;
7.     Menganjur sebarang program yang boleh mencapai matlamat penubuhan Yayasan.


The above-mentioned objectives are consistent with what was written in the Trust Deed of the Yayasan dated 30th March, 1995 which among others stated that the objectives of the Yayasan were  to:

1.     Awarding of scholarships, honoraria, grants, maintenance allowances or other financial assistance to any student or scholar and individuals carrying out or conducting any research consistent with the objectives of the Foundation;
2.     Sponsoring research works or projects organized by the Foundation or in conjunction with other persons or bodies having similar aims with the Foundation and publishing results of all or any of such results;
3.     Holding exhibitions, lectures, classes, seminars and courses either alone or with others consistent with objectives of the Foundation;
4.     Providing such facilities or services as the Trustees deem appropriate for the benefit or welfare of the public;
5.     Providing assistance for the improvement of the standard of living of the needy through the provision of financial aid, facilities and services in respect of welfare, health and education;
6.     Sponsoring or conducting character building programmes, leadership training and programmes for the development of specialised skills in line with the need of the nation;
7.     Otherwise, carrying out or furthering the objects of the Foundation.
